Cable Trays for United Kingdom projects, made in India

What it takes to land cable trays on a United Kingdom site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.

01Route and compliance

Getting cable trays into United Kingdom

The UK charges no import duty on cable tray or earthing rod from India. That takes price off the table. What is left is whether the rod genuinely meets BS 7430 and whether anyone independent has verified it, and we will take third-party inspection at our own works to settle exactly that.

Port of entry

Port of Tilbury, London

Also cleared through Port of Bristol, Port of Liverpool, Port of Grangemouth, Scotland.

Shipped FOB, CIF, CFR.

Trade picture

UK is the #3 global importer of earthing rods from India (405 shipments) and a major buyer of CNC machined components, precision sheet metal, and deep-draw parts for the UK automotive and aerospace supply chain. Earthing system demand is driven by: grid connection earthing for UK DNO (Distribution Network Operator) infrastructure projects; rail earthing (Network Rail CP7 investment programme); and commercial construction earthing to BS 7430. The UK imposes ZERO import duty on cable trays (HS 7308.90) and earthing rods (HS 7326.90) under the UK Global Tariff MFN schedule, no FTA required. Compliance requirement: cable management products must meet BS 4678 or BS EN 50085. Earthing rods for DNO and rail projects must comply with BS 7430 and BS EN 62305-3. MTC documentation standard required by UK contractors is EN 10204 Type 3.1 (or Type 3.2 for Network Rail approved products). The UK–India Trade and Goods Agreement (in negotiation, provisional application anticipated) is expected to further improve tariff competitiveness for precision engineering components from India to UK buyers.

Cable Trays

Vajra International is an ISO 9001:2015-certified cable tray manufacturer and exporter in Kolkata, India, producing ladder, perforated and raceway cable trays to IEC 61537 and IS 12352. Trays are roll-formed in-house in MS, GI, stainless steel and aluminium: pre-galvanized for indoor and dry duty, hot-dip galvanized to a minimum average 85 µm per ASTM A123 for outdoor and coastal exposure, or powder coated where colour-coding is specified. Shipped direct on FOB/CIF terms with the matched accessory and support range, mill test certificates and full export documentation.

06Questions buyers ask

Cable Trays into United Kingdom — the questions that come up

Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.

Aluminium suits weight-sensitive installations and mildly corrosive environments. It's naturally corrosion-resistant and roughly a third the weight of steel, though the trade-off is lower mechanical strength, which shortens support spans. For most heavy power and outdoor runs, hot-dip galvanized steel remains more economical. Aluminium earns its premium on rooftops, offshore topsides and long horizontal runs, where every kilogram saved matters.

Our mainstream export product is hot-dip galvanized and stainless steel tray, and that covers the vast majority of power, control and data projects. FRP or fibreglass has its place in highly corrosive chemical plants, where even stainless struggles. Tell us the environment and chemical exposure on your run and we can recommend the right material, whether that's steel, stainless or something else.

IEC 61537 defines load classes by the safe working load a tray carries at a stated support span with deflection kept within limits, verified by type-testing rather than calculation alone. The class rises with sheet thickness and profile depth. Ask for the manufacturer's load-deflection test report at your support span rather than accepting a self-declared rating.

Cable ladder is a type of cable tray, not a separate product. 'Ladder' describes the open construction, two side rails joined by rungs with no solid bottom, used for heavy power and long-span routes. Perforated tray, the other common type, has a continuous punched-sheet base instead. Both are built to IEC 61537 and IS 12352, so a specification or enquiry naming either term is quoted against the same standard.

Ladder trays are the right call for heavy power cabling, they give open rungs so warm air rises away from conductors, handle large cable bend radii without a tight bottom, and span further between supports. Perforated trays suit lighter control and instrumentation runs where you want continuous bottom support for smaller cables. For a data-centre busway feed, a substation cable corridor or a refinery main cable route, specify ladder. For a panel-room control loom or an instrument cable highway, perforated is enough.
