04Technical FAQ

Busbars. Buyer Questions Answered

Covering specification, standards, finish, export documentation, lead times and procurement logistics for copper busbars & strips from India.

There's no single verified leader in copper busbar either. Buyers who know what to check shortlist on ETP-grade conductivity certification (99.9% IACS or higher), IS 613 or EN 13601 compliance, and direct-factory supply rather than trusting marketing claims. Vajra International manufactures ETP copper busbar in Howrah, machined to drawing, and exports FOB/CIF to 30+ countries.

Copper busbar in bar, rod or profile form exports under HS 74071000 (bars, rods and profiles of refined copper). Confirm the exact subheading with your customs broker for your specific cross-section. Buyers shipping to the UAE benefit from 0% duty on HS 7407 under India–UAE CEPA, with a valid Certificate of Origin attached.

Copper busbar sits under HSN 7407 and carries 18% GST domestically. On export it's zero-rated: we ship under an LUT with no IGST charged, or pay IGST and claim the refund back afterward. Whichever route, the buyer's FOB or CIF price carries no Indian tax, only their own country's import duty and VAT.

ETP (Electrolytic Tough Pitch) copper, at 99.9% IACS conductivity or better, is the standard and most economical choice for the vast majority of switchgear, panel and substation busbar work. OFHC (Oxygen-Free High Conductivity) copper is reserved for specialised applications: high-vacuum, cryogenic or ultra-high-purity electronics, and it commands a real premium most power-distribution projects have no reason to pay.

Tin plating protects the copper surface from oxidation and keeps bolted joint resistance stable over the life of the installation. Specify it for outdoor, humid or coastal switchgear, and anywhere joints get made and re-made during maintenance. Bare copper is fine for sealed, indoor, low-humidity panels where cost matters more and joints stay put for years at a time.
