Defence Parts for United Kingdom projects, made in India

What it takes to land defence parts on a United Kingdom site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.

01Route and compliance

Getting defence parts into United Kingdom

The UK charges no import duty on cable tray or earthing rod from India. That takes price off the table. What is left is whether the rod genuinely meets BS 7430 and whether anyone independent has verified it, and we will take third-party inspection at our own works to settle exactly that.

Port of entry

Port of Tilbury, London

Also cleared through Port of Bristol, Port of Liverpool, Port of Grangemouth, Scotland.

Shipped FOB, CIF, CFR.

Trade picture

UK is the #3 global importer of earthing rods from India (405 shipments) and a major buyer of CNC machined components, precision sheet metal, and deep-draw parts for the UK automotive and aerospace supply chain. Earthing system demand is driven by: grid connection earthing for UK DNO (Distribution Network Operator) infrastructure projects; rail earthing (Network Rail CP7 investment programme); and commercial construction earthing to BS 7430. The UK imposes ZERO import duty on cable trays (HS 7308.90) and earthing rods (HS 7326.90) under the UK Global Tariff MFN schedule, no FTA required. Compliance requirement: cable management products must meet BS 4678 or BS EN 50085. Earthing rods for DNO and rail projects must comply with BS 7430 and BS EN 62305-3. MTC documentation standard required by UK contractors is EN 10204 Type 3.1 (or Type 3.2 for Network Rail approved products). The UK–India Trade and Goods Agreement (in negotiation, provisional application anticipated) is expected to further improve tariff competitiveness for precision engineering components from India to UK buyers.

06Questions buyers ask

Defence Parts into United Kingdom — the questions that come up

Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.

Indian manufacturers commonly operate to ISO 9001:2015 quality management with additional customer or drawing-specific requirements layered on for defence work. Specialised certifications, AS9100 for aerospace, NADCAP for special processes, are separate, more specific standards. Confirm which certification your specific programme requires, since ISO 9001 alone doesn't cover every defence-adjacent requirement.

As-machined, plating and phosphating are the common finishes, selected per the component's service environment and any corrosion-protection or friction requirement specified in the drawing. Painted finish is used where specified for identification or environmental protection.

Yes. Controlled-batch production, rather than large commercial runs, is typical for defence-adjacent work, where batch integrity, full traceability per batch, and documented inspection matter more than the economics of scale that drive commercial precision manufacturing.

Third-party inspection is generally welcomed and can be arranged to the specific standard your programme requires. Confirm which inspection body, SGS, TÜV, Bureau Veritas, or a defence-specific inspection agency, your project needs and build this into the production schedule from the start.

Direct supply to global primes (Lockheed, BAE, Israel Aerospace) happens through Indian primes participating in the offset programme. Vajra is part of the Tier-2 and Tier-3 supply chain that supports several Indian primes on global defence offsets.
