Slotted perforation runs along the tray length and gives more cable tie-down freedom — installers can secure ties anywhere along the slot. Round-hole patterns are stiffer at the same gauge but lock you into discrete tie points. For control and instrumentation looms with frequent branch-offs, the slotted profile is faster on site.

Is a perforated tray ever used for power cabling, or strictly control?

Below about 240 mm² conductor size, perforated trays carry power runs cleanly — pharmaceutical plants, commercial fit-outs and BMS rooms use them widely. For heavy LT/MT power above that, ladder is the better mechanical and thermal choice. The bottom-support of perforated trays does help with small-diameter fibre and Cat 6A bundles in modern offices.

Which thickness should I specify for a 600 mm wide perforated tray?

For a 600 mm width with cable load up to 50 kg/m and a 1.5 m span, 1.6 mm pre-galvanized works for indoor runs and 2.0 mm HDG for outdoor or industrial. Going thinner saves cost but invites mid-span deflection that interferes with insulation. We share the load-deflection chart on request.

For refinery and petrochem sites we hot-dip galvanize to ASTM A123 over a shot-blasted surface, and offer a duplex finish (HDG + epoxy paint) for H₂S and chloride-heavy environments. Stainless 316L is also available for direct splash-zone or hot-acid areas.

Commercial building projects (Grade A offices, hospitals, malls) typically tender for IEC 61537 Class 5–8 perforated trays with a 1.5 m support span. How are trays packed and protected for sea freight?
