A 50-year manufacturer,
built for export.
Global Metal. Indian Strength. Trusted Worldwide.
Our Heritage: Fifty Years in Howrah.
Vajra International's story is deeply rooted in the industrial landscape of Howrah, West Bengal, the historic heart of India's metalworking and engineering industry. Our manufacturing group began its journey in the mid-1970s as a small, specialized metal fabrication shop serving regional railway and domestic infrastructure sectors.
The Early Years: Precision and Trust
Founded by a small team of engineers, the workshop quickly earned a reputation for technical precision. In an era when specifications were checked by hand and quality was proven on the assembly line, the founders committed to a simple rule: never compromise on the grade of steel or the precision of the weld. This commitment caught the attention of major public utility boards, leading to our first large-scale domestic contracts for transmission towers and earthing systems.
Evolution into Modern Manufacturing
Over the decades, as the scale of global infrastructure grew, our facilities evolved. We transitioned from manual processes to automated multi-axis CNC machining, integrated modern hot-dip galvanizing lines, and established our dedicated testing laboratories. Today, the third generation of leadership guides the group, blending our decades of hands-on metallurgical experience with state-of-the-art engineering design software.
Global Reach, Howrah Roots
From a single local workshop, the group has grown into a facility capable of shipping container-scale orders to utility, solar, and industrial clients in over 30 countries. We continue to operate from our original base in Howrah, employing local craftsmen and engineers who carry forward the area's rich industrial heritage.
All production operates under our ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system. View the certificate, scope and inspection capability on the certifications page.
Milestones of Growth & Capability
Foundation & Precision
Established in Howrah, Kolkata, operating as a specialized metal fabrication shop serving regional utilities. Focus on strict material specs and manual welding mastery.
Grid Supply Approval
Secured domestic vendor registrations for national power grid and railway projects, demonstrating consistent manufacturing quality under strict government inspections.
System Automation
Transitioned production lines to fully automated roll-forming and multi-axis CNC machines. Implemented the ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System.
Global Direct Export
Standardized export packaging, heat-traceability reports (MTC EN 10204 3.1), and ASTM A123 hot-dip galvanizing to serve international engineering procurement teams.
You are not just buying steel; you are securing an engineering schedule.
When bidding for international utility, substation, or telecom bids, any documentation error or minor dimensional deviation of 5mm can result in weeks of delay at the destination port or project site. We understand the high stakes and the engineering pressure you carry. That is why our Howrah works employs in-house metallurgists to review every detail of your specification before production begins.
"Our promise: transparent mill pricing, direct engineering communications, and zero broker markups. We verify each production run so your site team gets error-free assembly on schedule."
The Direct Sourcing Economic Advantage
Trading houses stand between buyers and fabricators, adding cost margins and misinterpreting design sheets. Sourcing direct from our 50-year facilities ensures transparency:
No trading house commissions. We purchase raw steel coils directly from main mills (TATA, JSW) at volume rates.
Your CAD designs go straight to our VMC machine operators, eliminating translation errors.
We control formatting, welding, hot-dip galvanizing, and logistics within our own Howrah boundary.
Three procurement groups, one source.
Electrical Infrastructure
Cable management, earthing, busbars, and protection hardware engineered to IEC, NEMA, BS and IS for utilities, data centres and EPC projects.
StructuralStructural & Industrial
Electroforged gratings, fabricated supports, tower assemblies, and solar mounting, galvanized for service life in heavy industrial environments.
PrecisionPrecision & Custom
Multi-axis CNC components, sheet-metal and deep-drawn parts, and defence-grade precision work held to ±0.01 mm under single-facility control.
When to source direct,
and when not to.
We'd rather lose an order than land you with the wrong one. So here is the plain version: the orders we're the right factory for, and the ones you should place elsewhere.
Source direct from Vajra when
- You're buying at project or container scale, or can consolidate into an LCL shipment. That's where direct-from-factory landed cost beats a local reseller.
- You need the documentation in the file: Material Test Certificates, Certificate of Origin, third-party inspection, standards conformance you can hand to an auditor.
- Your programme allows 2–4 weeks of manufacturing plus sea transit. We build to your material, finish and standard, not from shelf stock.
- You'd rather deal with one accountable manufacturer than a chain of trading houses and the markups between them.
Buy elsewhere when
- You need a handful of pieces tomorrow. A local distributor will serve you faster and cheaper than any export order, take it.
- Lowest unit price is the only thing that matters and the paperwork doesn't. Chinese-origin product is often cheaper; we tell you exactly where it wins and where it doesn't. Read our India-vs-China comparison.
- Your project mandates Buy America or a domestic-content rule that imported material simply can't satisfy.
- You need a catalogue item off the shelf today. We're a manufacturer, not a stockist, everything ships made to order.
Why buyers source
