Surface Treatment
Hot-dip galvanizing (IS 4759, ASTM A123), electro-galvanizing, powder coating, and paint finishing — owned and controlled processes.
Inspection & Testing
Continuous dry film thickness (DFT) coating verification, salt-spray chambers, and calibrated micrometers. We welcome client-appointed third-party inspections (SGS, TUV, BV) at our Howrah works.
IS 2062 Gr. A Carbon Steel Chemical Limits
We verify all raw steel heats against IS 2062 parameters in our spectrometer lab to ensure optimal yield strength and weldability without embrittlement.

|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon | C | 0.23% | 0.17% - 0.19% |
| Manganese | Mn | 1.50% | 1.10% - 1.25% |
| Phosphorus | P | 0.045% | 0.025% - 0.030% |

| Silicon | Si | 0.40% | 0.15% - 0.22% |
Hot-Dip Galvanizing Coating Thickness standards
Our zinc bath runs are calibrated based on material thickness to guarantee minimum micron protection under international corrosion standards.
| Standard | Application Range | Steel Thickness | Min Avg Micron |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASTM A123 | Structural Sections, Cable Trays | > 6.4 mm | 85 µm (600 g/m²) |
| ASTM A123 | Sheet Metal Channels, Struts | 1.6 - 3.2 mm | 65 µm (460 g/m²) |
| ASTM A153 | Threaded Rods, Fasteners, U-Bolts | All sizes | 43 - 53 µm (305-380 g/m²) |
| IS 4759 | General Fabricated Steel Articles | > 5.0 mm | 80 µm (560 g/m²) |
On zinc spangle
The bright crystal pattern (spangle) on a hot-dip surface varies with cooling rate and bath chemistry. Large or small spangle is cosmetic only, it has no effect on coating weight or corrosion life. We specify by micron thickness, not by appearance.
Rolled, not cut, rod threads
Threads on our copper-bonded earth rods are roll-formed, not machined. Rolling preserves the continuous steel grain and the copper bond across the thread, so the coupling stays as strong and as conductive as the rod itself.
Coating Adhesion (ASTM D3359 Cross-Hatch)
For powder-coated components, we execute standard lattice pattern cuts using a multi-blade cutter, apply pressure-sensitive tape, and verify zero coating flaking (Class 5B rating) to ensure no paint peel during site handling.
Salt-Spray Calibration (ASTM B117)
Our corrosion chambers are calibrated to run at 35°C (± 2°C) with a continuous atomized fog of 5% sodium chloride solution. We log rust-free hours to guarantee durability in marine C5 environment categories.

VAJRA HOWRAH WORKS
Compliance, answered
Vajra operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system, with standards-based engineering across ASTM, IEC, EN, DIN, NEMA, BS and IS specifications.
Dimensional inspection, coating-thickness measurement, salt-spray testing and material certification are performed in-house. Third-party inspection is welcome.
Yes. Material Test Certificates (MTC) and inspection reports are prepared as standard, with batch and heat traceability for controlled and defence-grade work.
Mild steel, structural steel (IS 2062), stainless steel (304/316), aluminium, electrolytic copper and brass, selected and certified to application.
Standards-based engineering across ASTM, IEC, EN, DIN, NEMA, BS and IS, including IS 4759 / ASTM A123 galvanizing, IS 2713 gratings, and IEC 61537 / IS 12352 cable management.
Pre-galvanized (PG) sheet has zinc applied to the coil before fabrication, every cut edge, punch hole and weld made afterward exposes bare steel with zero zinc coverage. Hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) is applied after full fabrication: the finished part is immersed in molten zinc at 445–455°C, forming four intermetallic zinc-iron bonding layers on every surface including welds, cut edges and internal corners. HDG to ASTM A123 produces 85–110 µm average coating; PG Z275 produces 19 µm per side. Outdoors, HDG provides 25–40 year service; PG shows red rust at cut edges within 18–24 months in humid or coastal conditions. Vajra owns an in-house HDG bath and XRF-verifies every production batch.
