Lugs & Glands for United Kingdom projects, made in India

What it takes to land lugs & glands on a United Kingdom site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.

01Route and compliance

Getting lugs & glands into United Kingdom

The UK charges no import duty on cable tray or earthing rod from India. That takes price off the table. What is left is whether the rod genuinely meets BS 7430 and whether anyone independent has verified it, and we will take third-party inspection at our own works to settle exactly that.

Port of entry

Port of Tilbury, London

Also cleared through Port of Bristol, Port of Liverpool, Port of Grangemouth, Scotland.

Shipped FOB, CIF, CFR.

Trade picture

UK is the #3 global importer of earthing rods from India (405 shipments) and a major buyer of CNC machined components, precision sheet metal, and deep-draw parts for the UK automotive and aerospace supply chain. Earthing system demand is driven by: grid connection earthing for UK DNO (Distribution Network Operator) infrastructure projects; rail earthing (Network Rail CP7 investment programme); and commercial construction earthing to BS 7430. The UK imposes ZERO import duty on cable trays (HS 7308.90) and earthing rods (HS 7326.90) under the UK Global Tariff MFN schedule, no FTA required. Compliance requirement: cable management products must meet BS 4678 or BS EN 50085. Earthing rods for DNO and rail projects must comply with BS 7430 and BS EN 62305-3. MTC documentation standard required by UK contractors is EN 10204 Type 3.1 (or Type 3.2 for Network Rail approved products). The UK–India Trade and Goods Agreement (in negotiation, provisional application anticipated) is expected to further improve tariff competitiveness for precision engineering components from India to UK buyers.

06Questions buyers ask

Lugs & Glands into United Kingdom — the questions that come up

Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.

Standard sizes across the 1.5 to 1000 sq.mm range typically ship in 2 to 3 weeks from order confirmation; very large cross-sections or non-standard sizes may extend this. These are generally a shorter lead item than cable tray or structural steel, so they can often be added to a consolidated shipment without extending the overall schedule.

Tinned copper resists oxidation at the contact surface and is the safer default for outdoor, humid or long-service installations where the joint won't be disturbed often. Bare copper is acceptable for indoor, low-humidity panels with accessible, periodically-maintained connections. For coastal or industrial-atmosphere sites, always specify tinned.

Weatherproof (IP66/IP68-rated) glands seal against water and dust ingress for standard outdoor and industrial use. Flameproof (Ex d) glands are certified for hazardous areas where explosive gas or dust atmospheres are present, per the relevant hazardous-area standards, and cost significantly more because of that certification. Specify flameproof only where your site's hazardous-area classification genuinely requires it, and check with your site's electrical safety officer if you're unsure.

Gland size must match the cable's actual outer diameter, and armour diameter for double-compression glands, within the manufacturer's specified clamping range. Too large a gland won't grip properly; too small won't fit. Share your cable's datasheet OD, and armour OD if applicable, rather than ordering by cable cross-sectional area alone, since insulation and armour thickness vary between cable manufacturers.

Lugs ship in plastic bags inside cardboard cartons, with each carton holding 50/100/250 units depending on lug size. Cartons are palletised and shrink-wrapped for export. We mark every carton with size, type, IS number and batch, sortable at site without opening.
