Crimp lugs are the modern standard: faster to install with the correct crimping tool, consistent electrical contact, and no risk of solder-joint fatigue from vibration or thermal cycling. Solder lugs still get specified on some legacy or very high-current specialist applications but are less common in new industrial installations. Match the lug material to the cable conductor material: copper lugs for copper cable, aluminium lugs for aluminium cable. A mismatched bimetallic connection creates a galvanic corrosion risk at the joint over time. Where copper cable must terminate onto an aluminium busbar or vice versa, use a bimetallic (copper-aluminium) transition lug designed specifically for that junction, not a standard single-material lug.
