Earthing for United Arab Emirates projects, made in India
What it takes to land earthing on a United Arab Emirates site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.
Getting earthing into United Arab Emirates
Sourcing from India for a UAE job is not a leap: the UAE already buys more Indian earthing rod than any other country in the world. Under the India-UAE CEPA the duty on cable tray and earthing runs at 0% instead of 5%, but only against a Preferential Certificate of Origin. Ask whether your supplier issues one.
Port of entry
Jebel Ali, Dubai
Also cleared through Khalifa Port, Abu Dhabi, Port of Fujairah.

Trade picture
UAE is the #1 global importer of earthing rods from India (523 shipments) and #2 for cable trays (195 shipments, trailing only the Philippines). Jebel Ali is the GCC's dominant re-export hub, goods cleared here are onward-shipped to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman by road. Under India–UAE CEPA (in force May 2022), cable trays (HS 7308.90), earthing systems (HS 7326.90) and copper busbars (HS 7407.10) all attract 0% import duty at UAE Customs on presentation of a Preferential Certificate of Origin, down from 5% MFN. End users include DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority), ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), Emaar Properties, and the extensive network of EPC contractors serving NEOM's supply chain via Jebel Ali. DEWA cable tray orders must comply with IEC 61386 and DEWA Engineering Standards. ADNOC offshore and onshore cable management must meet IEC 61439-2 and ADNOC DEP specifications.
Earthing & Grounding Systems
Vajra International is an ISO 9001:2015-certified earthing and grounding system manufacturer and exporter in Kolkata, India, producing earthing plates, pipe electrodes, copper-bonded rods, and copper/GI strip and wire to IS 3043 and IEC 62561. Electrode systems are sized to the site's own soil resistivity rather than a fixed catalogue spec: IS 3043 sets a target below 5 Ω for LV distribution earthing, confirmed on-site by the fall-of-potential method. Supplied in GI, copper-bonded and pure-copper construction with backfill compound and accessories, shipped direct on FOB/CIF terms with material test certificates.

Earthing into United Arab Emirates — the questions that come up
Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.
A Mill Test Certificate for the steel core, a copper-coating thickness (DFT) certificate per IEC 62561-2 or IEEE 837, and, where specified, an independent third-party test report from SGS, TÜV or Bureau Veritas. Ask for these ahead of shipment. Chasing them down after a site audit flags their absence is a much worse conversation to have.
Solar farms cover a very large physical area with module racking, inverter stations and a perimeter fence all needing bonding, so the earthing grid is far more extensive: typically a buried perimeter ring with radial connections into each array block, tied to the inverter station earth. Module mounting structures need their own bonding path, distinct from but connected to the main grid, and that detail gets missed constantly when solar EPCs treat earthing as an afterthought.
Yes. A manufacturer producing the full earthing range in-house, plates, pipes, copper-bonded and GI rods, strip and wire, can put a complete system into one container with matched documentation, rather than you sourcing each component from a different trader and reconciling certificates from four separate places afterward.
There's no single official leader here either. Earthing manufacture spreads across Kolkata/Howrah, Gujarat and southern India, and self-declared rankings online mean little. What actually separates suppliers is direct-factory supply, IS 3043 or IEC 62561 test reports, and verified copper-coating thickness on the rod itself. Vajra International manufactures earthing plates, rods, pipes and strip in Howrah and exports FOB/CIF to 30+ countries.
IS 3043 clause 5.5 and IEC 62561-1 (clamps) both cover jointing. A bolted joint using stainless or galvanized hardware with a bimetallic washer is the minimum code-compliant method for accessible joints inside chambers. For buried joints, exothermic welding (Cadweld, Thermoweld or equivalent) creates a molecular-fusion connection that does not loosen, corrode or develop contact resistance over time, it is the gold standard for buried earth grid connections and is required by many utility and petrochemical specifications. We supply both jointing methods and the exothermic moulds, positioned for the strip size and joint angle.
