Find out who actually does the copper-bonding: an in-house electroplating line, or a subcontractor a few steps removed. Ask for a DFT test report and ISO 9001 certificate as samples. Then ask one pointed technical question, the target resistance at your soil resistivity, and notice whether the answer comes from someone who understands soil chemistry or gets bounced back unanswered. Put IEC 62561 in the enquiry for any export project so the copper-coating and mechanical test reports come back in the format your consultant expects to see.

Power-system (equipment) earthing carries fault current from electrical faults and is sized to the switchgear's fault level. Lightning-protection earthing carries very high, very short-duration surge current from a strike and needs its own low-impedance path, ideally a dedicated ring or rods bonded to, but distinct from, the main power earth. IEC 62305 governs the LPS-side design; both systems still need equipotential bonding together at one point.

70 sq mm tinned copper stranded conductor is the working default for transformer body bonding up to 1 MVA, motor frames up to 500 kW and LV/MV panel chassis. For transformers above 1 MVA and motors above 500 kW, move to 95 or 120 sq mm, the prospective earth-fault current at that rating makes the smaller size a fault-current bottleneck. The exact cross-section is set by IS 3043 Table 3 or the IEEE 80 conductor sizing formula using the maximum fault current and relay clearing time.
