A conventional maintained pit, rod plus watering pipe and funnel, costs less and is standard for most industrial and substation work, but it needs periodic watering in dry seasons to hold resistance down. A chemical or maintenance-free pit costs more upfront and holds resistance stable without watering at all. It earns that premium at remote sites, telecom towers, or anywhere site visits are infrequent.

A Mill Test Certificate for the steel core, a copper-coating thickness (DFT) certificate per IEC 62561-2 or IEEE 837, and, where specified, an independent third-party test report from SGS, TÜV or Bureau Veritas. Ask for these ahead of shipment. Chasing them down after a site audit flags their absence is a much worse conversation to have.

Solar farms cover a very large physical area with module racking, inverter stations and a perimeter fence all needing bonding, so the earthing grid is far more extensive: typically a buried perimeter ring with radial connections into each array block, tied to the inverter station earth. Module mounting structures need their own bonding path, distinct from but connected to the main grid, and that detail gets missed constantly when solar EPCs treat earthing as an afterthought.

This is standard on EPC contracts in Saudi Arabia, UAE and EU sites where on-site cutting and drilling is not permitted by the contractor's HSE rules or where labour cost makes prefabrication clearly worthwhile.
