Lugs & Glands for United Arab Emirates projects, made in India
What it takes to land lugs & glands on a United Arab Emirates site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.
Getting lugs & glands into United Arab Emirates
Sourcing from India for a UAE job is not a leap: the UAE already buys more Indian earthing rod than any other country in the world. Under the India-UAE CEPA the duty on cable tray and earthing runs at 0% instead of 5%, but only against a Preferential Certificate of Origin. Ask whether your supplier issues one.

Trade picture
UAE is the #1 global importer of earthing rods from India (523 shipments) and #2 for cable trays (195 shipments, trailing only the Philippines). Jebel Ali is the GCC's dominant re-export hub, goods cleared here are onward-shipped to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman by road. Under India–UAE CEPA (in force May 2022), cable trays (HS 7308.90), earthing systems (HS 7326.90) and copper busbars (HS 7407.10) all attract 0% import duty at UAE Customs on presentation of a Preferential Certificate of Origin, down from 5% MFN. End users include DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority), ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), Emaar Properties, and the extensive network of EPC contractors serving NEOM's supply chain via Jebel Ali. DEWA cable tray orders must comply with IEC 61386 and DEWA Engineering Standards. ADNOC offshore and onshore cable management must meet IEC 61439-2 and ADNOC DEP specifications.

Lugs & Glands into United Arab Emirates — the questions that come up
Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.
Commercial invoice and packing list, Mill Test Certificate or material composition certificate for copper/aluminium/brass, IS 8309 / IS 12943 / IEC 62444 compliance documentation, and a Certificate of Origin for duty relief.
There's no fixed minimum. Lugs and glands typically get ordered against a project's cable schedule, matching each cable size and termination point, and are often consolidated with cable tray or earthing material into one shipment to spread freight cost.
Standard sizes across the 1.5 to 1000 sq.mm range typically ship in 2 to 3 weeks from order confirmation; very large cross-sections or non-standard sizes may extend this. These are generally a shorter lead item than cable tray or structural steel, so they can often be added to a consolidated shipment without extending the overall schedule.
Tinned copper resists oxidation at the contact surface and is the safer default for outdoor, humid or long-service installations where the joint won't be disturbed often. Bare copper is acceptable for indoor, low-humidity panels with accessible, periodically-maintained connections. For coastal or industrial-atmosphere sites, always specify tinned.
Lugs ship in plastic bags inside cardboard cartons, with each carton holding 50/100/250 units depending on lug size. Cartons are palletised and shrink-wrapped for export. We mark every carton with size, type, IS number and batch, sortable at site without opening.
