Cable Trays for Qatar projects, made in India

What it takes to land cable trays on a Qatar site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.

01Route and compliance

Getting cable trays into Qatar

Qatar procurement runs on QCS. If a submittal does not map to the Qatar Construction Specification clause by clause it comes back, and the second round costs you a month you had not planned for. Ras Laffan and Mesaieed are where most of this product ends up, and Qatar is already the third largest buyer of Indian steel structures.

Port of entry

Hamad Port, Doha

Also cleared through Mesaieed Port.

Shipped FOB, CIF, CFR.

02The range

Cable Trays

Vajra International is an ISO 9001:2015-certified cable tray manufacturer and exporter in Kolkata, India, producing ladder, perforated and raceway cable trays to IEC 61537 and IS 12352. Trays are roll-formed in-house in MS, GI, stainless steel and aluminium: pre-galvanized for indoor and dry duty, hot-dip galvanized to a minimum average 85 µm per ASTM A123 for outdoor and coastal exposure, or powder coated where colour-coding is specified. Shipped direct on FOB/CIF terms with the matched accessory and support range, mill test certificates and full export documentation.

06Questions buyers ask

Cable Trays into Qatar — the questions that come up

Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.

Coastal and offshore sites need hot-dip galvanizing to ASTM A123 (85 microns minimum), or stainless 316L in splash zones. For Gulf desert projects, where chlorides are low but sand abrades coatings, HDG without a top coat works well. For aggressive coastal petrochemical sites, a duplex system of HDG plus epoxy pushes corrosion life past 30 years.

Yes, where it's listed for the duty. NEC 392.60 and IEC 61537 both permit a metallic tray to act as an equipment grounding conductor, provided its cross-section meets the fault-current table and every joint keeps electrical continuity (galvanizing removed at bonding points, jumpers fitted across expansion joints). Confirm the tray is approved for EGC use before you rely on it for that path.

Plan for bends (horizontal and vertical), tees, crosses, reducers, covers, couplers or splice plates, and support brackets, all in the same material and finish as the tray. One mistake we see constantly: ordering tray without accessories, then air-freighting a second small shipment of bends and tees at a premium once the gap shows up on site. Count the full accessory list into your enquiry from the start.

Support spacing usually runs 1.5 to 3.0 m depending on load class and cable weight. A tray rated at a 1.5 m span will deflect noticeably more at 3 m, so span and load can't be judged separately; they're two sides of the same number. Tell us the cable weight per metre and your preferred support spacing and we'll confirm the correct gauge and load class.

Ladder trays are the right call for heavy power cabling, they give open rungs so warm air rises away from conductors, handle large cable bend radii without a tight bottom, and span further between supports. Perforated trays suit lighter control and instrumentation runs where you want continuous bottom support for smaller cables. For a data-centre busway feed, a substation cable corridor or a refinery main cable route, specify ladder. For a panel-room control loom or an instrument cable highway, perforated is enough.
