Copper lugs handle higher current density, last longer in panels, and accept tinning for corrosion resistance. Aluminium lugs are lighter, cheaper, and necessary when the cable conductor is itself aluminium — never mix copper lug with aluminium conductor (or vice versa) without a bimetallic adapter.
Modern practice favours crimping with calibrated dies — a properly crimped joint is gas-tight, low-resistance, and verifiable by pull-test. Soldering is now reserved for instrumentation and special joints where vibration and reflow are not a concern. We supply both crimp and solder lugs but recommend crimp for power.
Use a hexagonal-die hydraulic crimping tool sized for the lug (the lug supplier specifies the die number). Strip the conductor cleanly, insert to the back-stop, and crimp two times along the barrel. Pull-test a sample joint. We share the crimping chart for every lug we ship.
Yes — tinning prevents copper oxidation at the bolt interface, which is the slow killer of panel joints in humid coastal or chemical environments. The cost premium is 8–12 %; the life extension is 2–3×. For data centres, refineries and marine projects, tinned is the default.
IS 8309 (compression-type) and IS 12943 (heavy-duty) in India; DIN 46235, BS 4579, IEC 61238 internationally. Our lugs are produced to IS 8309/12943 with material test certificates that align with the DIN and IEC equivalents — accepted by most international EPCs.
