Buying brass cable glands — answered
Practical answers for procurement, engineering and EPC teams — covering specification, standards, finish, lead time and export logistics.
A single-compression gland seals the cable outer sheath only — fine for indoor unarmoured cable. A double-compression gland seals the outer sheath AND grips the armour — required for armoured (SWA) cable and for any weatherproof or hazardous-area entry. Procurement teams sometimes specify the wrong type; verify cable construction first.
We supply Ex-rated glands certified to IECEx and ATEX (Ex d, Ex e, Ex tb) for Zone 1/2/21/22 areas through our partnered Ex manufacturers — Vajra brand is for general industrial. For hazardous-area projects, share the area classification and we'll quote the certified range.
Brass machines well to tight thread tolerances, doesn't seize under salt and humidity, and accepts nickel or chrome plating for marine use. Aluminium glands are lighter and cheaper but susceptible to galvanic corrosion. Stainless 316 glands cost 3–4× and are used in pharmaceutical and offshore splash-zone work.
Nickel-plated brass holds up better in marine and chemical environments and stays cosmetically clean. Bare brass develops a patina but performs identically. Most international tenders (GCC, EU) specify nickel-plated; Indian utility tenders accept bare.
The gland's outer-sheath sealing range and inner-armour gripping range must both bracket the cable's actual dimensions. Cables vary by manufacturer, so verify against the cable datasheet, not the conductor cross-section. We share a gland-selection table that maps common cables to gland sizes.

Manufacturing & Surface Treatment
All products are manufactured at Vajra's Howrah facility under ISO 9001:2015 quality management. In-house roll-forming, welding, galvanizing and testing — without sub-contractor dependency — ensures consistent dimensional accuracy and surface quality across export orders.
Precision Roll-Forming
CNC roll-forming lines capable of ±0.1 mm dimensional tolerance on MS, GI, SS, and aluminium sections.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing
In-house HDG plant conforming to ASTM A123 / IS 2629. Average coating: 85–140 µm. Pre-treatment: alkaline degreasing → pickling → fluxing.
Welding & Fabrication
MIG, TIG, SAW welding. Coded welders under ASME IX / IS 2825 qualification. Weld inspection by UT / DPT available.
Surface Treatment
Hot-dip galvanizing · Pre-galvanized GI · Powder coating (Tribo gun, 60–80 µm DFT) · Mill finish · Chromate passivation.
