Gratings into Germany — the questions that come up

Gratings get quoted per tonne for heavier bearing-bar specs, or per square metre for lighter, standard configurations. Ask for both figures so you can compare specs on a like-for-like basis. Larger bearing bars and tighter pitch push weight per m² up and cost with it, so share your actual load requirement rather than fixing on a bar size upfront.
There's no single official leader in this category either. Grating manufacture spreads across several Indian hubs, and the differentiator worth checking is whether a supplier genuinely electroforges (rather than substituting press-locked panels and calling them the same thing), holds IS 2713 or BS 4592 test reports, and galvanizes in-house. Electroforged steel gratings typically export under HS 73084000 (structures and parts, iron/steel, covering scaffolding, shuttering and propping) or 73089090 (other structures), depending on the specific product and end use. Confirm with your customs broker which applies to your order. Under India–UAE CEPA, HS 7308 clears at 0% duty with a valid Certificate of Origin.
Gratings sit under HSN 7308 and carry 18% GST inside India. Exports go out zero-rated, either under an LUT with no IGST charged or with IGST paid and refunded afterward. An overseas buyer's FOB or CIF price carries only their own country's import duty and VAT, nothing Indian.
Almost always, the welded grating has many small crevices that corrode rapidly without zinc coating. HDG to IS 4759 / ASTM A123 with 75–85 µm zinc is the working standard. Self-colour (un-coated) panels are used only for indoor, short-life, painted-over applications.
