What does 'electroforged' mean, and how is it different from press-locked?

Electroforged gratings fuse the cross-rod into the bearing bar with a resistance-weld pulse — the bars become a single rigid unit. Press-locked gratings hold the cross-rod in a notched bearing bar by friction (sometimes with adhesive). Electroforged is stronger, more durable, and the international default for industrial platforms.

Which IS or BS standard should the grating meet?

Accepted Answer

IS 2713 in India, BS 4592 in the UK, NAAMM ANSI-MBG 531 in the US. The standards specify bar dimensions, weld quality, load testing and tolerance. Our gratings are produced to IS 2713 with bar specifications interchangeable with BS 4592 — accepted by most international EPCs.

How is bar pitch chosen — appearance or load?

Accepted Answer

Bar pitch (30, 40, 60 mm) trades off open area against load capacity. Closer pitch (30 mm) means more bearing bars per metre — higher load, but heavier and harder to clean. Wider pitch (60 mm) has more open area for spilled fluids and easier cleaning. Refineries usually choose 40 mm as a balance.

What is 'serrated' vs 'plain' top, and when does it matter?

Serrated bearing bars have a saw-tooth top edge for slip resistance — required on stair treads, walkways above oil-and-grease zones, and any wet-process platform. Plain top is fine for indoor dry platforms and trench covers. Serrated costs about 8–12 % more.

Is hot-dip galvanizing always necessary?

Accepted Answer

Almost always — the welded grating has many small crevices that corrode rapidly without zinc coating. HDG to IS 4759 / ASTM A123 with 75–85 µm zinc is the working standard. Self-colour (un-coated) panels are used only for indoor, short-life, painted-over applications.

What load class fits a refinery walkway?

Accepted Answer

Refinery walkways typically need a 5 kN/m² uniform load and a 1.5 kN concentrated load per IS 2713 Class C. That maps to 25×3 mm or 32×3 mm bearing bars at 1.0–1.2 m support span. We share the load-deflection chart on request.

Are stair treads supplied with carrier plates and nosings?

Accepted Answer

Yes — stair treads ship with welded end carrier plates (drilled to the stringer pattern) and an anti-slip nosing (serrated checker plate or fiberglass). One-piece supply prevents site fit-up errors that delay structural sign-off.

How are gratings packed for export to West Africa or South America?

Accepted Answer

Panels are stacked face-to-face with hardwood spacers, banded into bundles, and crate-loaded for sea freight. For long voyages (5–8 weeks) to West Africa or South America we add VCI paper inside the bundle to prevent transit white-rust on the HDG.

Which Indian industries are tendering for gratings most heavily right now?

We supply electroforged gratings to four main segments: refinery and petrochem expansions (Reliance, IOCL, BPCL, Gujarat and Andhra sites), specialty-chemical plants (Aarti, Deepak Nitrite, PI Industries), power generation (NTPC FGD retrofits), and solar O&M platforms. We cut site-specific openings and assemble custom panel units in the factory, which speeds up EPC schedules. Export to GCC, East Africa and Vietnam is growing.

Are bespoke cut-outs (for pipes, columns) supplied factory-finished?

Accepted Answer

Yes — share the layout DXF and we cut, bind the edge with banding bars, weld and galvanize as a complete sub-assembly. Site cutting of HDG grating destroys the corrosion protection, so factory cut-outs are the better value proposition once the project hits 200+ m² of panels.
