Sheet Metal for Germany projects, made in India

What it takes to land sheet metal on a Germany site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.

01Route and compliance

Getting sheet metal into Germany

German buyers ask about material certification before they ask about price. That is the right order. We work to DIN EN 10025 on structural steel and ship mill test certificates with the goods, and where a job needs independently witnessed certification we will say so up front instead of discovering it at inspection.

Port of entry

Port of Hamburg

Also cleared through Port of Bremen / Bremerhaven, Port of Antwerp (via Rhine hinterland).

Shipped FOB, CIF, CFR.

Standards that apply here

Trade picture

Germany is India's largest trading partner in Europe and a rapidly growing buyer of precision engineering components, CNC machined parts, deep-draw sheet metal and structural steel fabrications, from Indian manufacturers. The German Mittelstand (medium-sized engineering firms) increasingly sources precision CNC components from India as German domestic capacity remains constrained and labour costs remain high. Key buying sectors: the German automotive supply chain (VW Group, BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, ZF Friedrichshafen, Continental) sources machined castings, turned parts and precision sheet metal from India under Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier agreements. Renewable energy: Germany's Energiewende targets 80% renewables by 2030, offshore wind and utility solar construction drives demand for steel structures, cable trays and gratings. Under India–EU FTA negotiations (ongoing, Interim Agreement anticipated), tariff barriers on industrial components are expected to reduce significantly. Current MFN duty is 0% on most structural steel (HS 7308) and 2.7% on some precision metal components under EU Common Customs Tariff. All industrial components for the German market must carry CE marking or DIN/EN test documentation. EN 10204 Type 3.1 or 3.2 MTC is the standard documentary requirement for all structural and precision metal supplied to German buyers.

06Questions buyers ask

Sheet Metal into Germany — the questions that come up

Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.

DD or EDD, Deep Drawing or Extra Deep Drawing, grade cold-rolled steel, fully annealed, soft-temper, is used specifically because it stretches uniformly during the drawing process without cracking or excessive thinning at corners, unlike standard commercial-grade sheet. Specifying the correct temper grade upfront avoids drawing defects that only show up after tooling is committed.

Yes. Enclosure design, seam welding, gasket channels, cutout tolerances, can be engineered to meet IP-rating requirements for dust or water ingress protection where specified on the drawing. Flag the required IP rating early since it affects seam and joint design, not just the final gasket selection.

Several Indian hubs, Kolkata/Howrah among them, have CNC laser, punch and press-brake capacity, with the advantage of coordinated supply alongside structural and precision machining work from the same manufacturing group for OEM projects needing multiple component types.

Visual inspection is standard for most sheet metal welds; weld shear or strength verification is applied where structural integrity matters, load-bearing brackets for instance, alongside a deburring audit to confirm no sharp edges remain on the finished part. Ask what inspection level applies to your specific component.

Fibre laser is the modern default, faster on thin-to-medium sheet (under 12 mm), lower running cost, and better cut quality on stainless and aluminium. CO₂ still has niche advantages on thick mild steel above 20 mm. Our cutting capacity is predominantly fibre.
