Structural Steel for Germany projects, made in India
What it takes to land structural steel on a Germany site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.
Getting structural steel into Germany
German buyers ask about material certification before they ask about price. That is the right order. We work to DIN EN 10025 on structural steel and ship mill test certificates with the goods, and where a job needs independently witnessed certification we will say so up front instead of discovering it at inspection.
Port of entry
Port of Hamburg
Also cleared through Port of Bremen / Bremerhaven, Port of Antwerp (via Rhine hinterland).
Shipped FOB, CIF, CFR.

Trade picture
Germany is India's largest trading partner in Europe and a rapidly growing buyer of precision engineering components, CNC machined parts, deep-draw sheet metal and structural steel fabrications, from Indian manufacturers. The German Mittelstand (medium-sized engineering firms) increasingly sources precision CNC components from India as German domestic capacity remains constrained and labour costs remain high. Key buying sectors: the German automotive supply chain (VW Group, BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, ZF Friedrichshafen, Continental) sources machined castings, turned parts and precision sheet metal from India under Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier agreements. Renewable energy: Germany's Energiewende targets 80% renewables by 2030, offshore wind and utility solar construction drives demand for steel structures, cable trays and gratings. Under India–EU FTA negotiations (ongoing, Interim Agreement anticipated), tariff barriers on industrial components are expected to reduce significantly. Current MFN duty is 0% on most structural steel (HS 7308) and 2.7% on some precision metal components under EU Common Customs Tariff. All industrial components for the German market must carry CE marking or DIN/EN test documentation. EN 10204 Type 3.1 or 3.2 MTC is the standard documentary requirement for all structural and precision metal supplied to German buyers.
Custom Structural Steel Work
Heavy structural fabrication, built-up columns and beams, plate girders, gussets, base plates and brackets, welded by qualified WPS, fit-checked and finished by galvanizing or paint to project specification.

Structural Steel into Germany — the questions that come up
Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.
Structural steelwork sits under HSN 7308 and carries 18% GST domestically. Exports ship zero-rated, under an LUT with no IGST or with IGST paid and refunded. An overseas buyer's FOB or CIF price carries only their own country's import duty, not Indian GST.
Structural fabrication is priced by weight, tonnage, with a significant premium for welding complexity, connection detailing and finishing. A simple built-up beam costs far less per kg than a plate girder with heavy stiffening and precise fit-up requirements. Share your structural drawing and specification for an accurate quote; generic per-tonne estimates are unreliable here given how much labour content varies.
IS 2062 specifies the material: the steel grade, chemical composition and mechanical properties, E250, E350 and so on. IS 800 is the general design and construction code, covering how members are sized, connected and detailed using that material. Both apply together. IS 2062 tells you what the steel is; IS 800 tells you how it's used structurally.
Standard rolled sections, I-beams, channels, angles, are more economical where a standard size meets the load requirement. Built-up sections, welded from plate into custom I or box profiles, get used where a standard rolled size doesn't exist for the required capacity, or where an unusual cross-section is needed for architectural or specific structural reasons. Your structural engineer's design will specify which is needed; it's a calculated decision, not a preference.
Petrochem structures often need blast-resistant connections (BRP) and seismic ductility detailing. We work to API 752/753 and ASCE 7, connection details, bolt grades and stiffener arrangements are reviewed with the buyer's structural engineer before fabrication.
