Sourcing lugs & glands into Lagos — what buyers ask
Specification, finish, documentation and terms, answered by the works in Howrah rather than a trading desk.
Crimp lugs are the modern standard: faster to install with the correct crimping tool, consistent electrical contact, and no risk of solder-joint fatigue from vibration or thermal cycling. Solder lugs still get specified on some legacy or very high-current specialist applications but are less common in new industrial installations. Confirm your site's installation tooling and standard practice before specifying solder.
Match the lug material to the cable conductor material: copper lugs for copper cable, aluminium lugs for aluminium cable. A mismatched bimetallic connection creates a galvanic corrosion risk at the joint over time. Where copper cable must terminate onto an aluminium busbar or vice versa, use a bimetallic (copper-aluminium) transition lug designed specifically for that junction, not a standard single-material lug.
Pricing scales with conductor size range, 1.5 to 1000 sq.mm, and material. Copper lugs cost more than aluminium for the same size, and larger cross-sections cost more per piece. Brass glands price by size (20 to 75 mm) and rating, standard versus weatherproof or flameproof. Get itemized pricing against your exact cable schedule rather than a blanket per-piece estimate.
Single compression glands seal the outer cable sheath only, adequate for unarmoured cable in benign environments. Double compression glands additionally clamp the armour wires on SWA cable for a mechanically secure and properly earthed termination, required for armoured cable and any outdoor or industrial installation where cable retention and continuity matter.
We supply Ex-rated glands certified to IECEx and ATEX (Ex d, Ex e, Ex tb) for Zone 1/2/21/22 areas through our partnered Ex manufacturers. Vajra brand is for general industrial. For hazardous-area projects, share the area classification and we'll quote the certified range.
