Standard rods, plates and strip typically ship in 3 to 5 weeks from order confirmation for a full container; smaller consolidated orders can move faster. Custom lengths, non-standard copper thickness or large chemical-earthing quantities push the schedule out, so flag those needs before you lock in a project date.

Coastal, humid and high-chloride sites should specify copper-bonded rod at 450 microns minimum or solid copper, with stainless steel or copper couplings. Never carbon steel; it creates a galvanic cell at the joint. Desert sites with low chloride but high resistivity soil often do well with GI pipe electrodes and a bentonite backfill compound to bring resistance down.

Backfill compound, bentonite or a conductive carbon-based mix, gets packed around the electrode to lower the effective soil resistivity and keep it stable across seasons. It matters most in high-resistivity or sandy, rocky soil where the natural ground alone won't reach the target resistance. In low-resistivity, consistently moist soil it's less critical, though it still helps long-term stability.

It comes down entirely to soil resistivity and the target resistance you're designing to, often 1 ohm for data centres and generating stations, 2 ohms for major substations, per IS 3043. A single rod in 100 ohm-m soil delivers roughly 25 to 30 ohms on its own, so reaching 1 ohm usually needs a buried counterpoise grid: a perimeter ring of strip with rods spaced along it, sized from an actual soil resistivity survey using the Wenner 4-pin method, not a rule of thumb.

IS 3043 clause 5.5 and IEC 62561-1 (clamps) both cover jointing. A bolted joint using stainless or galvanized hardware with a bimetallic washer is the minimum code-compliant method for accessible joints inside chambers. For buried joints, exothermic welding (Cadweld, Thermoweld or equivalent) creates a molecular-fusion connection that does not loosen, corrode or develop contact resistance over time, it is the gold standard for buried earth grid connections and is required by many utility and petrochemical specifications.
