Busbars for Kenya projects, made in India
What it takes to land busbars on a Kenya site: the port they clear through, the standards a consultant will hold them to, and the paperwork that has to travel with them.
Getting busbars into Kenya
Kenya buys more Indian brass cable gland than any other country, close to two fifths of the total. The step that catches new importers is KEBS, which wants a certificate of conformity issued before the goods ship rather than after they reach Mombasa. Ask about that early.
Port of entry
Port of Mombasa
Also cleared through Inland Container Depot, Nairobi.
Shipped FOB, CIF, CFR.
Standards that apply here

Busbars into Kenya — the questions that come up
Answered by the people who make the product, not a sales desk.
Yes, and this is the standard export scenario rather than the exception. Send the drawing with hole positions, bend angles and tolerances, and the busbar gets sheared, punched and bent to match, then tinned or sleeved as specified, so it installs directly with no on-site fabrication needed.
Our mainstream export product is solid flat copper busbar, cut and formed to drawing, and that covers the large majority of switchgear, panel and substation requirements. Flexible laminated busbar, thin copper foils built for vibration-tolerant connections, is a specialised product. Tell us your specific requirement and we can confirm whether a solid busbar with a flexible jumper section meets the same need.
Copper carries roughly 1.6 times the current of aluminium for the same cross-section and holds up better through repeated jointing, which is why it's the default for compact panels, data centres and anywhere space is tight. Aluminium is lighter and cheaper per unit of conductivity, and it works well where space isn't constrained and joints are torqued and maintained properly. The catch: it needs larger cross-sections and more careful joint design to avoid the oxide-layer and creep problems aluminium connections are known for.
HS 7407 covers copper bars, rods and profiles, the classification for solid busbar. HS 7409 covers copper plates, sheets and strip, thinner, flat-rolled copper products. Busbar cut from bar or profile stock is generally 7407; if yours is cut from rolled sheet or strip stock, 7409 may apply instead. Check with your customs broker based on the actual manufacturing process used.
Solar string and combiner cabinets often run at 1500 V DC, the busbar insulation system, creepage distances and clearance need to match. We supply busbars with the appropriate stand-off and sleeve for 1500 V DC service, sized for the array's short-circuit current.
