Thrie-Beam Crash Barrier
Three-corrugation high-containment barrier for expressways and central medians.

What it is
Thrie-beam triple-corrugation profile delivers higher containment than W-beam for expressways, median divides and high-speed approach roads. Supplied with matching posts, blockouts and pre-formed W-to-thrie transitions so a project can mix containment levels along one corridor.

Buying thrie-beam crash barrier — answered
Practical answers for procurement, engineering and EPC teams — covering specification, standards, finish, lead time and export logistics.
Thrie-beam is the right call where heavier vehicles (buses, lorries, articulated trucks) are part of the design vehicle mix, where speeds exceed 100 km/h on expressways, and on medians separating opposing traffic. Its three corrugations distribute impact load over a deeper section, raising containment one to two levels.
Thrie-beam systems typically meet EN 1317 H1, H2 and (with reinforced posts) H4a — covering 10–38 t vehicle impacts. Indian thrie-beam meeting IRC:6 plus MASH 2016 TL-4 is broadly equivalent. EPCs serving European-funded African projects and GCC megaprojects often tender to EN 1317 directly.
Yes — pre-formed transition rails connect a thrie-beam expressway run to a W-beam approach road, preserving containment continuity. Sloping a rail directly down without a transition piece would create a snag point. We supply transitions matched to your alignment.
Posts at 2.0 m centres for Level H1, dropping to 1.0 m for Level H2 and even closer (0.5–0.75 m) for H4a. The closer the posts, the stiffer the system and the lower the working width — important on narrow medians and tunnel approaches.
Yes — thrie-beam median barriers are common on flexible expressway designs. Concrete (New Jersey profile) is stiffer but unforgiving on smaller vehicles and harder to replace after impact. Thrie-beam absorbs more energy through deflection and is repairable rail-by-rail. Designers weigh impact severity vs maintenance cost.
Manufacturing & Surface Treatment
All products are manufactured at Vajra's Howrah facility under ISO 9001:2015 quality management. In-house roll-forming, welding, galvanizing and testing — without sub-contractor dependency — ensures consistent dimensional accuracy and surface quality across export orders.
Precision Roll-Forming
CNC roll-forming lines capable of ±0.1 mm dimensional tolerance on MS, GI, SS, and aluminium sections.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing
In-house HDG plant conforming to ASTM A123 / IS 2629. Average coating: 85–140 µm. Pre-treatment: alkaline degreasing → pickling → fluxing.
Welding & Fabrication
MIG, TIG, SAW welding. Coded welders under ASME IX / IS 2825 qualification. Weld inspection by UT / DPT available.
Surface Treatment
Hot-dip galvanizing · Pre-galvanized GI · Powder coating (Tribo gun, 60–80 µm DFT) · Mill finish · Chromate passivation.
