Bridge Railing
Vehicular bridge railings with kerb-mount detail for viaducts and overpasses.

What it is
Metal bridge railings in W-beam, thrie-beam or tubular construction, with anchor-bolt kerb mounting and inspection-walkway extensions where required. Conforms to IRC:6 and IRC:SP:23 bridge sub-structure specifications.

Buying bridge railing — answered
Practical answers for procurement, engineering and EPC teams — covering specification, standards, finish, lead time and export logistics.
Bridge railing anchors into the bridge kerb or parapet via cast-in or post-installed anchor bolts, not into soil. Its post is shorter and stiffer because the kerb absorbs little impact energy. Crash performance, height and anchor design follow IRC:SP:23 rather than IRC:SP:51.
900 mm above the kerb top is the IRC:6 minimum for highway bridge railing. For pedestrian / cyclist-shared bridges step up to 1100 mm, and for railway over-bridges to 1500 mm with anti-throw mesh. We supply all three heights to drawing.
M20 or M24 anchor bolts at 6.8 grade with chemical anchors (Hilti HIT-HY 200, Fischer FIS V) embedded 150–250 mm into the kerb, with edge distance ≥125 mm. Pull-out testing of one in twenty anchors is standard for high-impact corridors. The drawing pack we provide shows the layout.
Yes — tubular railings (CHS or RHS uprights with horizontal rails) suit urban bridges, scenic highways and landmark structures where the W-beam silhouette is unwanted. Containment levels are tuned by rail diameter and post spacing. We've supplied tubular railings on several Indian urban expressway flyovers.
Yes — bridge railings often double as lightning catchment for elevated structures. Continuity bonding straps at each splice and a bond to the bridge structural earth are required to IS 3043 / IEC 62305 practice. We supply the bonding hardware as part of the kit.
Manufacturing & Surface Treatment
All products are manufactured at Vajra's Howrah facility under ISO 9001:2015 quality management. In-house roll-forming, welding, galvanizing and testing — without sub-contractor dependency — ensures consistent dimensional accuracy and surface quality across export orders.
Precision Roll-Forming
CNC roll-forming lines capable of ±0.1 mm dimensional tolerance on MS, GI, SS, and aluminium sections.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing
In-house HDG plant conforming to ASTM A123 / IS 2629. Average coating: 85–140 µm. Pre-treatment: alkaline degreasing → pickling → fluxing.
Welding & Fabrication
MIG, TIG, SAW welding. Coded welders under ASME IX / IS 2825 qualification. Weld inspection by UT / DPT available.
Surface Treatment
Hot-dip galvanizing · Pre-galvanized GI · Powder coating (Tribo gun, 60–80 µm DFT) · Mill finish · Chromate passivation.
