03Frequently Asked

Buying rooftop mounting systems — answered

Practical answers for procurement, engineering and EPC teams — covering specification, standards, finish, lead time and export logistics.

Anodized aluminium 6063-T6 is the standard for rooftop rails — light, corrosion-free, easy to install. GI rails work for ballast frames where weight is a feature, not a bug. Rooftop projects with weight constraints (warehouses, factories with ageing roofs) always use aluminium.

Tin-sheet roofs use L-foot brackets with EPDM rubber gaskets and self-tapping screws — the gasket compresses against the corrugation peak and seals the screw penetration. For severe-weather sites we add a butyl tape under the bracket. The installation should follow the roof OEM's penetration spec.

Yes — pre-fabricated ballast trays with concrete weights are available for flat roofs where penetration is not allowed (waterproof membranes, leased buildings). Wind tunnel-tested layouts ensure the ballast weight is sufficient at the site's design wind speed.

A 1 MW rooftop project (≈2,500 modules) ships in 4–6 weeks. Smaller rooftops (200–500 kW) ship in 2–3 weeks. We hold rail and clamp stock to meet the C&I solar developer schedule which often turns on a 4–6 week order-to-installation cycle.

Mid-clamps grip between two modules; end-clamps grip the outside edge of the first and last module in a row. Each clamp must match the module frame height (typically 30, 35 or 40 mm). Specify module model and we'll send the right clamps.

Manufacturing & Surface Treatment

All products are manufactured at Vajra's Howrah facility under ISO 9001:2015 quality management. In-house roll-forming, welding, galvanizing and testing — without sub-contractor dependency — ensures consistent dimensional accuracy and surface quality across export orders.

Precision Roll-Forming

CNC roll-forming lines capable of ±0.1 mm dimensional tolerance on MS, GI, SS, and aluminium sections.

Hot-Dip Galvanizing

In-house HDG plant conforming to ASTM A123 / IS 2629. Average coating: 85–140 µm. Pre-treatment: alkaline degreasing → pickling → fluxing.

Welding & Fabrication

MIG, TIG, SAW welding. Coded welders under ASME IX / IS 2825 qualification. Weld inspection by UT / DPT available.

Surface Treatment

Hot-dip galvanizing · Pre-galvanized GI · Powder coating (Tribo gun, 60–80 µm DFT) · Mill finish · Chromate passivation.
