Tin plating protects the copper surface from oxidation and keeps bolted joint resistance stable over the life of the installation. Specify it for outdoor, humid or coastal switchgear, and anywhere joints get made and re-made during maintenance. Bare copper is fine for sealed, indoor, low-humidity panels where cost matters more and joints stay put for years at a time.

IS 613 is the Indian standard for copper rods and bars used as conductors, covering conductivity, dimensional tolerance and temper. EN 13601 is the European equivalent, widely referenced on export tenders. A manufacturer working to both can supply the same busbar with either certificate; tell us which one your project's electrical consultant expects.

99.9% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard) minimum is the benchmark for ETP copper busbar. That's what carries the rated current with acceptable I²R losses and temperature rise. Ask for the actual conductivity figure on the Material Test Certificate rather than accepting "electrolytic copper" as a description on its own; conductivity below spec shows up later as extra heating and voltage drop once the panel is loaded.

IACS stands for International Annealed Copper Standard. 100 % IACS equals a resistivity of 1.7241 µΩ·cm (or 5.8 × 10⁷ S/m). ETP copper tests at 100–102 % IACS; anything below 98 % indicates impurities or cold-work embrittlement, causing the bar to run hotter at rated current. The practical check: ask for resistivity per metre (µΩ/m) rather than a percentage, a 100×10 mm ETP busbar should measure about 0.0172 µΩ/m. If the supplier quotes '>98 %' without a tested value from an NABL lab, that is a red flag. Our NABL-certified test report states the measured conductivity on each heat, not just a compliance claim.
