What conductivity should copper busbar have?

99.9% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard) minimum is the benchmark for ETP copper busbar. That's what carries the rated current with acceptable I²R losses and temperature rise. Ask for the actual conductivity figure on the Material Test Certificate rather than accepting "electrolytic copper" as a description on its own; conductivity below spec shows up later as extra heating and voltage drop once the panel is loaded.

How do I calculate the busbar size needed for a current rating?

Busbar ampacity depends on cross-sectional area, ambient temperature, enclosure ventilation and permissible temperature rise, with IEC 62271 the reference standard for switchgear. As a rough guide, copper busbar carries roughly 1.2 to 1.6 A per mm² in a ventilated enclosure, though your specific installation will set the real figure. Share your panel current rating, enclosure type and ambient temperature and we'll confirm the section against IEC 62271 derating tables.

What documents come with a copper busbar export order?

Commercial invoice, packing list, a Mill Test Certificate showing conductivity (%IACS) and dimensional tolerance, an EN 10204 3.1 material certificate where specified, and a Certificate of Origin for duty relief. Third-party inspection from SGS, TÜV or Bureau Veritas is arranged where the buyer or project standard calls for it.

No fixed minimum on export orders. Busbar is priced and shipped by weight, and small quantities routinely get consolidated with other electrical hardware, lugs or earthing strip, into one container. Tell us your section sizes and total tonnage and we'll work out the most economical shipment plan.

Are there special considerations for busbars in solar inverter cabinets?

Solar string and combiner cabinets often run at 1500 V DC, the busbar insulation system, creepage distances and clearance need to match. We supply busbars with the appropriate stand-off and sleeve for 1500 V DC service, sized for the array's short-circuit current.

What happens if goods arrive with a specification error or quality defect?

Accepted Answer

A specification error at receipt is rare when the order is confirmed in writing before production begins, which is our standard process. If a discrepancy does occur: we require photographic documentation and a written defect report within 14 days of arrival at destination. If the defect is in our manufacture (not in transit or caused by buyer-supplied drawings), we re-manufacture or credit the affected items against the next shipment. The single most reliable safeguard is pre-shipment third-party inspection, an SGS, Bureau Veritas or buyer-nominated inspector checks dimensions, finish and materials against the confirmed specification before the container is sealed and loaded. We actively encourage this for first-time orders and can coordinate inspection at our Howrah facility with 48 hours' notice.
