Saudi SEC Distribution Standard SSS-03.01 and UAE DEWA earthing specifications both follow IEC 62561-2 rather than IS 3043. The practical differences are: (1) GCC tenders require bentonite-based ground enhancement compound (GEM) instead of salt-and-charcoal backfill. GEM does not leach into surrounding soil and holds moisture better in desert conditions; (2) Saudi specs call for copper electrodes at all utility connection points, not GI; (3) the Saudi acceptance test requires each electrode to achieve ≤5 Ω before the distribution company will connect.
